The work has now been hung at the Star Anise Cafe in Stroud, nice to have finished the series.
The hanging went very smoothly, we found the paintings filled the space just right and the natural light in the cafe was perfect for the work.

The series is nearing completion, several of the paintings are finished, some of them just never seem to be complete.
One of the biggest problems I have with free-form abstract painting is knowing when to stop painting. So often without a preconceived composition to work towards, a painting is never to sure when it is finished. As is the case with the painting below, Purple Forest is now nothing more than a photographic image, having evolved from Green Disco, both images I know really love and would be perfectly happy with. Strangely though at the time of painting them I did not feel happy with them. Currently this painting exists in sate of drying in preparation for the exhibition, looking I might add nothing like it does below!!

White Spring, the painting below is one of my favourite pieces for this exhibition, the piece of work itself is to me a very spiritual painting. As an abstract it is full of colours and form, visually it is if a human figure stands in the middle of the canvas shimmering in the light and colour around him

St Mary’s (below) is a warm and friendly abstract, thick and heavy colours jostle together in thick clumps like woolly textiles, the coolness of the blue washes over the page splashing at the composition whilst reds and greens play in a courtyard of expression.

February 2011
I have been asked by the Star Anise Gallery in Stroud to produce a new set of abstract paintings for my forthcoming exhibition opening Sunday the 7th August 2011.
The exhibition will be a selection of newly framed formative oil paintings from 2000 and a new large scale abstract oil paintings, the development of which I will be documenting on this blog.
